The Art of Time

The wondrous city of Geneva is the capital and mecca of watchmaking. Once a year the SIHH (Salon Internationl de la Haute Horlogerie) occupies Geneva and hosts sixteen prestigious Maisons to unveil their latest timepieces and flaunt their expertise and ingenuity. SIHH sets the stage with minimal architecture in order to allow each exhibitor illustrate their individual style.

The crème de la crème of watch making all in one venue is a watch enthusiasts dream come true. Only exclusive makers such as Audemars Piguet, Cartier and Piaget, just to name a few, have proven their expertise to be part of the elite 16 watch makers to join in the SIHH of 2014.

One thing all of these expert watch makers inherently share is the unique ability to keep the art and fantasy of time alive. Whether these timepieces are adorned with diamonds, gems or strictly metal, the beauty and precision of each piece is quite unique. Van Cleef & Arpels, for one, debuted their Midnight Planetarium Poetic Complication watch. This masterpiece features an entire solar system under a sapphire crystal. The watch displays six rotating disks each featuring a miniature sphere, representing the six planets visible to the naked eye.

Highlights from the SIHH

For those who prefer a more technical timepiece, Jaeger LeCoultre and IWC debuted some remarkable watches that are forefront of future of watch making.

IWC’s Aquatimer collection was all the rage at the 2014 SIHH. IWC revamped their original dive watch’s movements as well as case materials.

Audemars Piguet released an entire new collection with innovative metals, enamels and mechanisms.
